10 places, you have to see when you’re travelling in Georgia:

 

1. Tbillisi – The capital of Georgia and the biggest city. The architecture of Tbilisi surprises you it’s diversity, narrow streets, characteristic balconies, which indicates old relations with neighbours. Modern bridges, the oldest churches and monasteries, a large number of cafes and restaurants. All this creates an unforgettable impressions. You need less than 3 days to checkup capital -Tbilisi.

 

2. Mtskheta – The ancient capital of Georgia, which is located near  the Tbilisi. If you stop in the capital, than you definitely need to visit this place. There are much Georgian Christian monuments  in Mtskheta. First sightseeing is – Jvari Monastery,  which architecture resembles as a cross from top. Monastery stands on a hill, from where you’ll see beautiful view – where river Mtkvari and Aragvi blends each other. Mtskheta is a little city and all the houses are built in one style, what makes this city to be featured.

 

3. Kazbegi – ‘’majestic summit’’. It’s located 160 kilometres from Tbilisi. The most beautiful view at the peak opens from a mountain, where is built – Gergeti Sameba. This view will forever remind Kazbegi sightseeings in your mind.

 

4. Sighnaghi – ‘City of Love’. Little city, which name is from Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani’s life. He sold his property, in order to grant a million roses for the woman which he loved. Niko Pirosmani originally was from Kakheti. Kakheti is homeland of winemaking and if you want to taste Georgian traditional wine you have to travel in Kakheti region.

 

5. Mestia –  mountainous region and the capital of Svaneti. In this territory live ethnic residence – Svans. Their traditions and language is different from other parts of Georgia. First of all, Mestia attracts tourists with their beautiful nature. Snowy mountains, fresh air, the sense of freedom and harmony – this is all you wait in Svaneti.

 

6. Prometheus cave -  an unusual and mysterious place, which is situated near the Kutaisi. The length of the cavern is – 11 km, but tourists can visit only 1060 metres. You can travel with the boats in the cavern. There are different colour lights, which shines on the stalagmites and stalactites and creates an unforgettable impression to you. There is underwater lake and rivers in the cavern. 

 

7.  Rabati castle– Historical castle was built in IXth century.  Here you explore orthodoxy church, Islamic mosque, Gregorian church, the castle of Jakeli. During the travelling in Rabati you have feeling that you’re 2-3 centuries in the past. Everyday this complex hosts 1500 tourists.

 

8.  Borjomi -  For all the people is known mineral water ‘Borjomi’, but we are sure that haven’t drunk this mineral water  from the spring.  If you want to taste  you have to pay the ticket price in Borjomi Park and you can enjoy the nature, walk in the park and taste this mineral water. You will be amazed that the water is more tasty, than you expected. Also you can enjoy Borjom-Kharagauli forest-park.

 

9.  Batumi – modern and  live city, which is situates on the coast of black sea. Here you willn’t be sad even for a minute! You wait more fun, but the most important is the Black Sea Coast! Batumi differs Georgia’s another cities with their architecture and style of living. Black sea, sun, sea coast, beautiful city – what can be much more better!  

 

10. Martvili canyons – Situates near the city of Zugdidi and it’s very popular for tourists. You can take a walk by gondola in a beautiful nature. Your journey will be like a rafting or adventure travel!

  • When you’re travelling in Georgia it’s necessary to have a Georgian money – Lari. In Georgia markets don’t work on dollar or euro. If you haven’t Lari you can’t buy anything in our country. However it should be noted that you can use your plastic cards.

 

  • In the capital it’s more cheaper if you travel by bus, minibus or metro, than private taxi. Here the cost of bus is 50 tetri, minibus – 80 tetri, metro costs 50 tetri too. It should be noted that if you select to travel by bus or minibus you can buy a travel card, easily transfer money on your card and move in the streets.  If you wish to departure from Tbilisi in another region you can travel by the private minibus, bus or train. It should be noted that it’s good for you if you walk on foot, so in this way you’ll better see Tbilisi sightseeings.

 

  • If you haven’t any opportunity to stay in the hotel, in Tbilisi there are many guesthouses, where you will be hosted with pleasure and quite low price!

 

  • There is free wi-fi on every street of Tbilisi, so you can simply use app - Google Map, which is uploaded in your phone. You can be always on-line!

 

  •  One useful tip is that you have to scan every important document before your trip. This will help if you loss your documents. 

 

  • Note in which season you want to travel in Georgia. As a rule, in this country there is cold Winter and Autumn and you need warm clothes and equipment.

 

  • Definitely taste Georgian cuizine and wine, such as Khachapuri, Lobiani, Xinkali, Churchxela and others. As for the wine, there are many variety in Georgia and it’s preparation is related on ancient traditions, therefore it’s necessary to taste Georgian traditional Wine.

 

  • From 2012 Russian Federation citizens travel in Georgia without visa, during 90 days. For Russians  to travel in Georgia only need to have a passport. It’s worth considering, that if you were been in South Ossetia or Abkhazia and the sign in your passport isn’t dabbed by Georgia government, it may cause problems such as a fine.

 

  • In Georgia there is prohibited drinking beer in the streets. It’s a rule that everyone have to obey.

Georgian visa types:

 

There are two types of Visa currently issued in Georgia:

  • Short-term visa (Business visit; Visitor and Tourism) to enter and stay in Georgia for up to 90 days in any 180-day period;
  •  Long-term visa (Work; Study; Family reunification and Medical treatment) is also issued for a period of 90 days, and it is a precondition of obtaining a relevant residence permit if needed.

 

Visa obtaining:

 

Georgian visa may be obtained in either of the following two ways (depending on the purpose of the visit):

  • for short-term visit (i.e. tourism or business purposes) visa application can be made online on the www.evisa.gov.ge. Prospective travelers have a possibility to obtain a tourist or business visa without visiting Georgian Embassy or Consular Office, following three simple steps: applying, making online payment and printing out ready e-Visa (upload of supporting documents proving the purpose of your trip required).
  • The long-term visa can be obtained at the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Georgia abroad only.


 

Applying for a Georgian long-term visa:

 

o    all applicants should fill in the electronic application form and schedule a visit to a consular office;

o    filled in application should be printed out, signed and submitted to the visa issuing authority;

o    applicant will need his/her passport, two 3x4 colored passport photos, and consular fee payment confirmation.

 

The MFA of Georgia makes decision on issuance of short-term visa during 10 calendar days and of long-term visa within 30 calendar days after receiving all documents.

 

 

Georgian customs requirements

 

The following items can be imported duty free:

- 200 cigarettes;
- 3 l of wine;
- 10 l of beer;
- Personal Possessions up to 100 kg;
- Imported goods weighing over 20 kg are taxed in GEL for each kilogram.

 

Import of the following is prohibited:

- Illegal drugs and medicaments;
- Weapons, explosives and ammunition shall be supported by the permission;
- Knives and other deadly weapon;
- Pornographic materials;
- Items of national importance shall be supported by the permission;
- Plants and animals.

 

Limited import:

- Any animals require veterinary health certificate;
- All personal medicines shall be supported by doctor’s prescription, to avoid being detained by customs authorities;
- Cats, dogs and other domestic animals require veterinary health certificate;
- Works of art, imported to, or exported from the country require a photo of each item and permission signed by the Ministry of Culture;  
- Hunting weapon is allowed to be imported, if the traveler has a valid Georgian license to shoot.
